Welcome 2023

BY: RACHEL WUMKES

New Year’s Eve is one of the largest global celebrations.  It’s unique in the sense that no matter where you are in the world, the countdown and festivities are essentially the same.  Champagne corks pop as we blow our noisemakers and throw confetti in the air.  Loved ones often share a kiss as a superstition to secure their love throughout the upcoming year.

We often utilize this time to reflect on the previous 365 day of our lives.  On accomplishments or disappointments.  On loved ones lost and significant moments in each of our lives.  Refection of the days gone by is a chance to take inventory on personal growth and learn from experience.

And the promise of a clean slate awaits us when the clock strikes midnight.

Like an author with a fresh chapter to begin, many people look at the new year as a blank page to write their own story.  Countless resolutions are made across the globe.  Some people make the conscious decision to get healthy and lose weight or maybe finally pay off debt.  It’s the perfect opportunity to look at the future with fresh eyes and reach for your goals.

Whatever those goals may be.

But first – we celebrate.  And what better place to celebrate the spectacular year that was 2022 than in Clear Lake?

Seems a bit premature to be discussing party possibilities before Christmas.  However, as it is one of the busiest nights of the year for some establishments, planning is key.

The Clear Lake Arts Center has a “Noon Years” celebration on December 31st from 10:30am to Noon.  This event is for those who enjoy all the pomp and circumstance of celebrating the new year, but also value their sleep!!  There will be Festive Appetizers and Sparkling Cider, Art Activities, a Noon Countdown and Balloon Drop.  And the best part?  It’s FREE fun for all ages!

The North Iowa Events Center will be a buzz of activity on December 31st because the rodeo is coming to town!  The Honey Creek Series wants you to ring in the New Year with them.  The indoor arena has rodeos starting at 2pm and 7pm.  The Scuba Steve Show will also be there, along with live music with Beau Bonner and a cash bar. Admission is $10 for the 2pm show, $15 for the 7pm show, or if you would like to stay for both…it’s just $20!

And lastly, Vic Ferrari will play his FINAL show at the Surf Ballroom on New Year’s Eve.  Doors open at 8pm.  Tickets are $26 in advance or $31 at the door.  But plan accordingly because I guarantee it will be a packed house that night.

Of course, no celebration would be complete without a delicious meal out on the town.  For me, New Year’s Eve is all about the food.  Even though most of us will indulge in all the deliciousness and goodies of Christmas – it’s time to treat yo’self!  Check out our directory of restaurants and plan ahead.

Another good idea is to check out the event calendar for LIVE music and other fun events planned by our Chamber Members.  Items are constantly being added so be sure to check often for updates and additions!

It’s been a great year, friends.  One for the record books on many occasions.  Celebrate in style (and safely) this New Year’s Eve at the Lake!
