Exhibition: It’s All About Balance by Joan Webster-Vore
Joan Webster-Vore produces mixed media work in response to the natural environment in which we live, the illusive shadows, movements, and changes, the search for balance. The universe, the political and sociological environment, the air, land and water, our humanity, all need balance to survive and thrive.
Exhibition is on display until July 5

NOW PLAYING: How to Train Your Dragon (PG-13)
From three-time Oscar® nominee and Golden Globe winner Dean DeBlois, the creative visionary behind DreamWorks Animation’s acclaimed How to Train Your Dragon trilogy, comes a stunning live-action reimagining of the film that launched the beloved franchise. On the rugged isle of Berk, where Vikings and dragons have been bitter enemies for generations, Hiccup (Mason Thames; The Black Phone, For All Mankind) stands apart. The inventive yet overlooked son of Chief Stoick the Vast (Gerard Butler, reprising his voice role from the animated franchise), Hiccup defies centuries of tradition when he befriends Toothless, a feared Night Fury dragon. Their unlikely bond reveals the true nature of dragons, challenging the very foundations of Viking society. With the fierce and ambitious Astrid (BAFTA nominee Nico Parker; Dumbo, The Last of Us) and the village’s quirky blacksmith Gobber (Nick Frost; Snow White and the Huntsman, Shaun of the Dead) by his side, Hiccup confronts a world torn by fear and misunderstanding. As an ancient threat emerges, endangering both Vikings and dragons, Hiccup’s friendship with Toothless becomes the key to forging a new future. Together, they must navigate the delicate path toward peace, soaring beyond the boundaries of their worlds and redefining what it means to be a hero and a leader. The film also stars Julian Dennison (Deadpool 2), Gabriel Howell (Bodies), Bronwyn James (Wicked), Harry Trevaldwyn (Smothered), Ruth Codd (The Midnight Club), BAFTA nominee Peter Serafinowicz (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Murray McArthur (Game of Thrones).

Steve Earle: Fifty Years of Songs and Stories (solo & acoustic)
Steve Earle is one of the most acclaimed singer-songwriters of his generation. A protege of legendary writers Townes Van Zandt and Guy Clark, he quickly became a master storyteller in his own right, with his songs being recorded by Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Joan Baez, Emmylou Harris, The Pretenders, and countless others. 1986 saw the release of his record, Guitar Town, which shot to number one on the country charts and is now regarded as a classic of the Americana genre. Most recently, Earle’s 1988 hit Copperhead Road was made an official state song of Tennessee in 2023. Subsequent releases like The Revolution Starts…Now (2004), Washington Square Serenade (2007), and TOWNES (2009) received consecutive GRAMMY® Awards. In 2020, Earle was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. And in 2023, Steve was honored by the Bruce Springsteen Archives & Center for American Music. Steve’s newest album, “Alone Again (Live)”, will be performed at the Surf Ballroom this summer.

Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story in Concert
By Arrangement with Alan Janes and Maria Elena Holly Buddy is a musical celebration of the legendary singer/songwriter Buddy Holly, who shot to stardom in 1957, only to die in a plane crash two years later alongside 17-year-old Ritchie Valens and J.P. Richardson – ‘the Big Bopper’. Starting out as a Country & Western singer in Lubbock, Texas, Buddy and his two friends from ‘The Crickets’ and with the support of local radio DJ, ‘Hipockets’ Duncan, they start to carve out a career in music. After an inauspicious start at Decca Records in Nashville, Buddy & the Crickets sign a contract with innovative up-and-coming record producer Norman Petty. Within hours of meeting they start to record Buddy’s biggest hit, “That’ll Be The Day” at Petty’s studio in Clovis, New Mexico, which rockets up the chart and reaches number one within weeks. Buddy Holly & the Crickets suddenly became the hottest act in the country, performing at home and abroad and becoming the first white act to win over the notoriously hard-to-please crowd at Harlem’s Apollo Theatre. Now successful, the Crickets start to record in New York, where Buddy meets and proposes to Maria Elena Santiago, the Puerto Rican receptionist of his record publisher, after a courtship which takes all of five hours. Newly married and ambitious, Buddy completely shifts his focus to New York and the inevitable rift develops between him and the Crickets. After a declaration of home truths during a recording session in Clovis, the band split and Buddy unexpectedly finds himself having to pursue a solo career. ‘The Winter Dance Party’ of 1959 is a tour travelling by bus through the Midwest, quenching the teenage thirst for this ‘new music called Rock & Roll’. The tour is hard work, the weather conditions appalling and the performers are alternating between sleeping in the luggage racks and dropping into hospital to be treated for frostbite. On February 3rd 1959, after a concert at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa, Buddy breaks his promise to his pregnant wife not to fly as he and the other two headliners (Ritchie and the Bopper) board a small plane and fly off into the night for the next leg in Moorhead, only to crash shortly after take-off into a ploughed field. There are no survivors. This was a tragedy that shocked the world. In Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper, the accident snatched away three of the most dynamic talents the world had known, and as the legend says, it was “the day the music died…” Buddy Holly’s brief life has become the stuff of legend. Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story is a celebration of that legend and catches that unique mixture of innocence, determination, humour and charm that was Buddy Holly, and wraps it into a package that truly deserves the billing: “The World’s Most Successful Rock & Roll Musical”

Mystery Book Club: Call for the Dead
The Mystery Book Club meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 6:00 pm in the library. Call for the Dead by John LeCarre: George Smiley is no one’s idea of a spy—which is perhaps why he’s such a natural. But Smiley apparently made a mistake. After a routine security interview, he concluded that the affable Samuel Fennan had nothing to hide. Why, then, did the man from the Foreign Office shoot himself in the head only hours later? Or did he?
