The timing on this one couldn’t be more perfect.  We’ve been in isolation now for how long? Forty-five days, give or take?  So many of our businesses have been closed during this time, including hair salons and barbers.

Remember back when all this started and I wrote this fun little blog about holding out for your hairdresser?  Well, from what I’ve seen from social media posts or heard from friends, many of y’all caved and succumbed to the home haircut.

A few are decent.  Several are completely awful.  I can’t even imagine how many ears were nicked with the sharp edge of the scissors during all this.

And honestly, it’s fine, because you’ll need to schedule a haircut again soon anyway.  Hopefully by then they’ve lifted the restrictions and opened up.

My roots could use some love!

I, personally, have refrained from the home haircut, as have both my girls.  This is where long hair put us at an advantage.  A simple ponytail can fix anything.  Or a hat.  I’m a big fan of hats.

My boys, however, they haven’t faired so well.  And since the best clippers in this house are the ones we bought to occasionally trim up the dog, their home haircuts were given to them via dog clippers.

Oh, the shame!  These boys with their fancy hard parts.  There’s no way we can replicate that without them looking like a complete nerd in the end.

**sigh**

So, it was buzz cuts for the win.  For all of them.  And my sparkles of gray continue to shimmer in the sun.  A beacon of light, casting a glowing aura around my face.

I really miss my hairstylist.

Which brings us to the topic of today… it’s National Hairstylist Appreciation Day!  A service you’ve likely assumed would always be there – someone available to cut your hair – has been removed from your life, creating a heightened appreciation for said services.

So how can you shower your hairstylist with love today?  Well, you can always contact them and purchase gift cards, or product.  Mostly definitely get your appointment set up for when their doors open again.  Give their business (and them) a shout-out on social media, thanking them for being amazing.  Even though they were considered “non-essential” during the pandemic, they are definitely “majorly essential” in my eyes.

And when that day rolls around when you can be pampered by their gentle fingers, it shall be glorious.  Getting your hair washed, cut and colored.  Having those caterpillar-esque eyebrows ripped from your skin with hot wax.  There will be no pain, only tears of joy as life takes one step closer to getting back to normal.  And for the love of all that is holy, give them a generous tip.  Big.  Double what you’d normally give.

They deserve it.

So, cheers, to all the hairstylists and barbers out there.  We’d like to give a special shout out to Chamber Member, Studio B of Clear Lake!  Enjoy your day, and get those scissors sharpened and ready.  We’re coming for ya just as soon as we possibly can!
