Winter in Clear Lake, Iowa just got a little more magical! The new modular ice skating rink in City Park is officially open, bringing a fun way to enjoy ice skating in Clear Lake right to the heart of the community.

What started as a simple “wouldn’t this be fun?” idea quickly turned into a community-wide project thanks to strong local support, generous donors, and a shared vision for creating more year-round activity downtown. The result is a welcoming space for families, youth skaters, couples, and anyone looking to lace up and enjoy a Clear Lake winter moment.

The rink was made possible through private fundraising led by local resident Jessica Wood, who worked closely with City leaders and the Parks & Recreation Department to bring a seasonal, modular rink to life near the bandshell. Her goal was simple: create a place that feels joyful, festive, and accessible—something straight out of a Hallmark-style winter scene that brings people downtown and supports local businesses.

That vision came together thanks to an incredible group of community partners. Clear Lake Bank & Trust Company served as the Elite Sponsor, joined by Gold Sponsors First Gabrielson Insurance Agency, Dean Snyder Construction, CL Tel, and Charlie’s Soda Fountain. Silver Sponsors include the Clear Lake Chamber of Commerce and Amelia Rose, Realtor, along with additional community supporters and anonymous donors. Special thanks also goes to Lashier Graphics & Signs for donating rink signage.
