Typically, the month of June in Iowa brings average temperatures ranging somewhere between a low of 62 degrees and a high of 78 degrees.  In most years, June is the month of battling with kids who want to swim, but it’s just not warm enough.

Well, not this year!

Holy heatwave, Batman.

It might be hard to remember, being that your brain has likely melted just a tad from these incredibly hot days, but it wasn’t too long ago when we froze our tails off during TRI Clear Lake.  Those poor swimmers came out of the water that day with blue lips, shivering as they removed their wetsuit to continue onto the bike portion of the event.

Today… you NEED that water!

I did a little searching on the interwebs to find some interesting information about this crazy heat.  Apparently, we are experiencing VERY atypical weather for so early in the season.  The first week of June is usually mild, sometimes even chilly.  In fact, most summers, we average only THIRTEEN days of 90 degrees or higher temps.

That’s for the entire summer, folks.

I have a feeling we’re going to up that average this year!

Thankfully, as we live in paradise, we have a plethora of ways to keep cool in the intense heat.  Both City and State Beaches are the perfect antidote to cure all your ailments from the heat.  Take a dip in the cool water, or perch yourself on a floatie and spend the day relaxing under the sun.

Regardless of the excessive hotness, it didn’t stop people from coming out in droves to enjoy a night on the town during Thursdays on Main.  With just a hint of breeze coming off the lake, it spiraled up Main Ave, cooling the masses as they swayed to the awesome tunes by the Split Second Band and enjoyed a few cold drinks!

As we begin another fun-filled weekend of awesomeness here at the Lake, get out and enjoy all the great things Clear Lake has to offer.  We really are lucky to live in such an incredible community with so many things going on and places to visit.

Want to cool off?  Pop into the Arts Center!  Or check out the Fire Museum.  Grab a tub of popcorn and soak up the air conditioning while you enjoy a movie at Lake Theatre.

Whatever you do this weekend, whether it be out in the sun or inside – have a GREAT weekend at the Lake.  But don’t forget to slice out a little time to rest, friends, because on Monday we kick-start another fabulous week of fun in paradise!
