Join us for a Taste of Tuscany

By: Rachel Smith

Rough Guides describe Tuscany as “the epitome of everything that is beautiful in Italy.”  I’m guessing this is one of the main reasons why over ten million tourists flock to the west central region and surrounding areas each year.  The romantic countryside creates an exquisite portrait between the historic towns.  A work of true beauty, the stunning landscape looks as if it was hand painted by the finger of God.

To add to this already fascinating region, Tuscany is a mecca for Renaissance Arts.  In fact, some consider it the birthplace of The Renaissance.  Once upon a time, several of the greatest figures in art history called Tuscany home:  Botticelli, Dante, Donatello, Michelangelo, da Vinci and Puccini, to name a few.

Yeah, I’m a total name-dropper.

But you’re hooked, right?  Thinking… wow, this sounds incredible!

Well, hold on to your hats, folks, because I haven’t even touched on the food and wine.

Aaaand… sold.  As Jerry McGuire once said, “You had me at hello.”  I’d like to amend my version to, “You had me at wine.”

While Italian cuisine is one of the best in the world, it’s the vineyards in Tuscany that steal the show.  The soil there is very poor, so it’s quite common to have lower yields.  But the quality!  Their quality is what makes Tuscany one of the most notable wine regions in the world.

Now, you may wonder where I’m going with this.  Well – it appears you (yes… I’m looking at you) can book the trip of a lifetime through the Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce to Tuscany.  Spots are available for anyone who has interest.

Wait… what?  How can I go to Tuscany??

If you’ve already made up your mind, stop in to the Chamber office to register, or call 357-2159.  But to learn more about the trip – which takes place in October – please join us on Monday, June 12th for a “Taste of Tuscany.”  It will be held from 4:30-6pm at the Hy-Vee West wine and spirits room.  During the event, you’ll be able to learn more about the iconic vineyards while sipping Tuscan wine.

Oh, there will be wine?  Perfect!

See you there!
