Here Fishy, Fishy, Fishy!

Angling enthusiasts are invited to participate in the ultimate fishing competition.  The Iowa Walley Challenge runs from May 1st to June 30th as part of a state-wide research project.  Designed to get a better sense of the walleye population across the state of Iowa, this contest is open to the public.  Participants can fish anywhere in Iowa.

So, how do you join in the fun?

Iowa’s Walleye Challenge uses the MyCatch mobile app.  You simply download, and then get yourself registered in the Iowa tournament.  Once entered, it’s time to start fishing! You can use the app to take a picture of your walleye on a measuring board before releasing it back into the water, and they will do the rest!

It is only $25 to enter, and each angler has the chance to win an estimated $5,000 in prizes.

While this is not your typical fishing tournament, it is still a great reason to get a line in the water and try to reel in a big one.  Using the app, organizers don’t need to wrangle volunteers for the event, or even assist with weigh ins.  This way, you can fish on your own terms, wherever and whenever you choose.

Fishing is a great way to spend time in the great outdoors.  Whether you’re in a boat, on the shore, or fishing off the end of a dock, it’s the challenge of the sport that keeps people coming back for more.  And you know what they say, right?  A bad day fishing is better than a good day at the office!

The clock is ticking. It’s time to get fishing.

As of May 20th, Clear Lake is currently in the silver spot, trailing Big Creek Lake by 69 fish.  The 8 anglers registered have caught, photographed and recorded a total of 150 fish so far.

There is still plenty of time to get in on the action and claim the top spot in Iowa.  Head on over to Clear Lake Bait & Tackle to for all your fishing needs.  They have live bait, cool fishing gear, and great fishing advice on where the walleyes are biting.

See you on the Lake!
