The True Rock Stars behind our Events!

BY: RACHEL WUMKES

Volunteer Recognition Day is observed every year on April 20th.  Volunteering is important because it allows people to help others in a selfless way.  In fact, the actual definition of a volunteer is “a person who freely offers to take part in an enterprise or undertake a task.”

The key word there?  Freely.

Meaning they don’t do it for the money.  Or the notoriety.  They do it out of the goodness of their heart.

Many people who volunteer are trained in specific areas of work, such as medicine, education, or emergency rescue.  Others serve on an as-needed basis, typically in response to a disaster.

In the case of the Clear Lake Chamber of Commerce, volunteers are often needed to help with our signature events and community activities.

We wouldn’t be the organization we are today without the help of our incredible volunteers.  It’s your happy, smiling faces the athletes see as they cross the finish line for TRI Clear Lake. They remember your helpfulness during Color the Wind.  And it’s the dedication and time you put in to make Harvest Festival a smashing success year after year.

It’s you!!!

Your awesomeness.  The commitment to improving our community.

And, of course, your love for all things Clear Lake.

So how does one celebrate Volunteer Recognition Day?

Well, the easiest way to honor our volunteers is to volunteer yourself!  They say, “Many hands make light work,” and you can help us ease the workload.  Don’t have the time?  That’s okay.   Make sure you thank a volunteer and, if able, donate monetarily to the cause.

Incidentally, I’ve learned today is also National High Five Day.  Turns out, we have them in abundance for our volunteer squad!

High five for YOU. And YOU. And all of YOU!

high five

We see you.  We know who you are.

Your selfless commitment to making our community amazing has not gone unnoticed.

The National Volunteer Week theme for 2023 is Volunteering Weaves Us Together.

This shows the incredible importance volunteering has to the strength and vibrancy of our communities through the interconnected actions we take to support one another.

I love this.  SO VERY MUCH!

Seriously, could there be a more perfect representation of Clear Lake?  I don’t think so!

Turns out, there are perks for volunteering, too.

  • It can provide a healthy boost to your self-confidence.
    • Who doesn’t need this every now and then? I know I do!
  • It can boost your self-esteem.
    • I’ve been feeling a bit down on myself lately. Sign me up!
  • It can elevate life satisfaction.
    • An all-around good thing. 100% on board here!
  • It can provide a natural sense of accomplishment.
    • No need for supplemental pick-me-ups any longer!
  • It often gives a sense of pride and identity.
    • Oh… her? Yeah, she’s super involved in the community.  You’ll see her helping with everything!

As always, here comes my shameless plug about HOW you can get involved in the most incredible little lake town community in the Midwest.  In fact, we are actively seeking volunteers for our upcoming event, TRI Clear Lake.  It’s a super-fun day filled with amazingly athletic people (and some regular folks like me) who will swim, bike and run their way in and around Clear Lake.  There are plenty of opportunities to sign up, just click this link https://clearlakeiowa.com/events/tri-clear-lake/ and scroll down to where it says ‘volunteers.’

Again, our appreciation is endless for the support over the years.  When we put out the call, you guys came running.

Your dedication is what makes Clear Lake a step above the rest!
