I say it every week, but how can it be Friday again already?  Is it just me?  Do I live in some type of time warp where the weeks whiz by in a blur, leaving a barrage of carnage and dust in its tracks?

I suppose I should be thankful, given the fact the entire month of April felt like it lasted 839 days.  Taking care of the little whippersnappers whilst being stuck inside the house was long.  And endless.

I’d like to attribute the quick passing of time these days to the fact there are things TO DO again.  Today alone, you guys, there is a LIST of activities for you to enjoy at the Lake.

  • The Car Cruise
    • While not the sanctioned CLASS Car Cruise of year’s past, there will likely be a steady stream of super-cool cars to watch this evening!
  • Planes at the Airport
    • A one-of-a-kind collection of the rarest historical military planes in the world will be here from August 3-9th! You can see the B-17 Bomber and the P-51 Mustang aircraft up close and personal, or even FLY IN ONE out at the Mason City Airport.
  • Food Truck Friday in Central Gardens
    • Get your BBQ on with Big Brad’s BBQ. Indulge in an Iowa tradition and let the Evening Lions grill you up a side of sweet corn!  Or, stop over to Bee Bee’s Seafood to satisfy your coastal cravings!
    • As an added treat this week, our newest Chamber Member, Chris’ Kettle Corn, will be on site as well. YUM!!!
  • Live Music at Sunset Sharky’s
    • Jeff Boehnke & Mark Hestness have been in some incredible bands, but now they’re teaming up for a night of music and fun! Stop by and see them from 6-9PM.

With the cooler temperatures, I can’t help but think about the slow transition we will soon make into Autumn.  Before we know it, the leaves will turn color and begin their descent into a mess all over my lawn.

**sigh**

I suppose it’s okay this year.  Any sign of life moving forward gets us one step closer to some uber-genius creating a vaccine that will maybe allow us back to the life we all miss.  Back when we could go to concerts at the Surf Ballroom and pack into bars and restaurants like sardines.  When it was just “back to school” like normal instead of riddled with the heavy weight of worry.

Those were the days!

So, get out and soak up this last little bit of summer fun.  Enjoy the sun and the fresh air.  Go do all the things, filling your tank to the brim to help you through the long, upcoming winter months.  Here at the Chamber, we’re 110% committed to our community betterment, and will continue coming up with socially distanced activities and fun to help make it feel like a bit of normal.

Have a great weekend!
