CLEAR LAKE, IA – The historic Surf Ballroom & Museum in Clear Lake, Iowa, is seeking a visionary and dynamic Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead its operations and spearhead new initiatives. A renowned National Historic Landmark, the Surf Ballroom is a key part of American music history, famously known as the site of the final concert of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J.P. “The Big Bopper” Richardson in 1959.

The North Iowa Cultural Center & Museum (NICCM), the nonprofit organization that manages the Surf Ballroom, is leading efforts to further expand its cultural footprint. In partnership with the City of Clear Lake, NICCM recently secured the Destination Iowa Creative Placemaking grant to transform the Surf District. This initiative includes the construction of the Music Enrichment & Immersive Center (MEIC), scheduled to open in June 2025. The MEIC will offer diverse educational programs and house North Iowa’s first immersive music museum, further enhancing the area’s appeal to music enthusiasts and tourists from across the globe.

“Exciting things are happening in the Surf District. We are looking for the right person to enhance our world class entertainment venue,” stated Jeff Nicholas, President North Iowa Cultural Center & Museum.

The new CEO will oversee both the Surf Ballroom & Museum and the MEIC, ensuring the organization’s mission to promote cultural and educational experiences are met. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a passion for music and culture, and a background in nonprofit management. They will play a pivotal role in managing daily operations, fundraising, financial planning, and community engagement while ensuring the Surf Ballroom’s legacy continues to thrive.
