It was about this time last year when our lives came to a screeching halt.  All the planning and preparation was well underway to ensure a season of fun at the lake when the rug was pulled out from underneath us.

Now, as the temperatures begin to rise, melting the dreaded snow and exposing glimpses of grass underneath, the questions linger in the back of everyone’s mind.

Will we have events?

Will we have a 4th of July Extravaganza?

What will my summer at the lake look like?

After the debacle 2020 turned out to be, I completely understand the apprehension as we continue to move forward.  Having our lives turned upside-down by the closing of school, being stuck inside and away from people for long periods of time… it was not so much fun!

To hopefully help settle some of those nerves, the Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce is optimistic for a summer filled with all our favorite events and activities.  Our current low numbers of positivity in the region, coupled with the roll out of the COVID-19 vaccination, has put us in a great position to resume our pre-pandemic lifestyles.

As a result, we are currently planning for a summer of fun at full steam ahead.  Granted, we understand things could change and we must adhere to State guidelines, but as mandates have been lifted at various levels, it looks promising for the future!

HOORAY!

The “kickoff to normalcy” as I like to call it, begins with a Chamber Member only, exclusive event at the Surf Ballroom on March 26th.  There, we will unveil the 2021 award-winning visitor guide, Destination Clear Lake, and enjoy a night of dueling pianos.  Guides will be distributed to local businesses the following week and, as always, you can order a digital or print copy at www.clearlakeiowa.com.

Next up is Earth Day, which really jumpstarts our Spring season of cleanup left behind from Old Man Winter.  The 5K/10K run is a great way to get your body outside and moving again after being stuck indoors for the long winter months.

From there, we basically get to ride the downslope into a summer of awesomeness.  In recent days, there has been talk of the pool re-opening, of Youth Athletic League signups and Farmer’s Markets.  City wide garage sale dates are being set and Parks & Rec is planning activities for day camps.

Before we know it, our beloved Thursdays on Main will be back in action with an evening of live music, food trucks, special entertainment, and movies in the park.

Sounds heavenly, right?

Sounds like summer in Clear Lake.  A time of fun in the sun, of toes in the water and floating on a giant flamingo at State Beach for hours on end.  Of grilling burgers and having picnics in the park.  Of camping and paddle boarding and sunsets over the water.  Of 4th of July carnivals and playing bingo and a lavish parade down Main Ave as spectators dressed in red, white and blue line the street.

We are hopeful.  We are planning.

We are looking forward to doing all the things we’ve missed so much!

To ensure you never miss any of the fun at the lake, be sure to check out our Events Calendar.  Or, if you’d like to receive the weekly events email, please send your request to Rachel@clearlakeiowa.com.
