It makes me literally giddy with glee to write things on my calendar. Where the normal anxiety used to linger as those little squares filled up with activities each month, is now replaced with jubilation.

Seems like a fitting reaction following a year of crossing things off my list.

One of the items on the docket being added back is Business After Hours. These monthly get-togethers for Chamber Members are not only a great way to unwind but are littered with networking opportunities.

Networking allows you access to openings you might not be able to find on your own. It is a key tool for growth within one’s career. Have you ever heard the saying, “It’s not what you know, but who you know!” Well, that is where networking pays off.

Your connections in the business community are powerful, and networking is essential in boosting your career to the next level. This growth in status, as well as support from high profile individuals, is a crucial key in the development of your brand. No matter what you sell, or how you market your business, the value placed on being seen in your community and known throughout as a ‘go-getter’ is second to none.

As a writer, many of my freelance gigs have come about from being at social functions like After Hours, or other Chamber gatherings. As I cruise the room, chatting with people about work, upcoming summer plans, etc. I’m often asked about my books. Many times, it’s one of those “one topic led to another” and before you know it, I’ve secured a new freelance project.

It’s a win-win for everybody!

To make these powerful connections with other like-minded businesspeople in the community, be sure to mark your calendar for our first “Welcome Back” event on Wednesday, April 28th hosted by Athletico. Starting at 4:30PM, this fantastic affair will allow you to tour the Athletico facility, meet the team, and see what Athletico Physical Therapy is about. Beverages and appetizers will be provided.

Be sure to mark yourself as “going” on their Facebook event HERE.

And for the planners out there, the one’s who are looking to fill up those empty boxes in their calendars, there are two more Business After Hours already on the schedule.

The 5/18 event will be held at Central Gardens, hosted by Central Gardens and Country Landscapes.

The 6/8 events will be held at the Clear Lake Yacht Club, hosted by the Association for the Preservation of Clear Lake.

If your organization is considering hosting one of these spectacular networking events, please contact Chamber President and CEO, Stacy Doughan at stacy@clearlakeiowa.com or call 641-357-2159.
