One of my most favorite weeks is fast approaching.  A week of no alarm clocks, no backpack checks, no dress-up days for class, no homework or keeping track of practice schedules.

It’s Spring Break, baby!!

And while some folks jet off to warmer climes and spend the week frolicking ocean side with their family, many people tend to stick around North Iowa for the week.

So, what is there to do?  Well, a lot of things, actually.  I’ve put together a list of super-fun ideas to make your Spring Break the best stay-cation possible.  Check it out!

  1. Slimeapalooza at LakeTime Brewery ~ Sunday, March 8th ~ 2:00PM
    • Kick off your Spring Break with slime! For a minimal fee, a slime specialist will guide you through the process step by step.  Not only will you learn how to make slime, but interesting and unique ways to play with slime.  Enjoy a cold brew while learning all the ins and out of this gooey substance. (Only 30 spots available due to space so sign up at the taproom to reserve your spot)
  2. LEGO Day at Clear Lake Public Library ~ Tuesday, March 10th ~ 2:00 – 4:00PM
    • Stop by the Children’s Department and build a masterpiece. All materials are provided by the library.  Open to all ages, but children not yet in 1st grade must be accompanied by an adult.
  3. Crafternoon at the Clear Lake Public Library ~ Wednesday, March 11th ~ 2:00-4:00PM
    • Children will be able to create and imagine projects! The library will supply materials, so be sure to bring your creativity.  Program is come and go and open to all ages.
  4. LEGO Derby Day at the Clear Lake Public Library ~ Thursday, March 12th ~ 2:00-3:00PM
    • You’ll have one hour to build your fastest car and send it down the track. The library will supply all materials… just bring your imagination.  Space is limited, so register by calling 641-357-0315.
  5. Lake Theatre
    • They’ll be showing ONWARD (PG), a movie of two teenage elf brothers who go on a journey to discover if there is still a little magic left out there in order to spend one last day with their father, who died when they were little.
    • Special 1PM Matinee showings will be offered Tuesday – Friday during spring break.
  6. North Iowa Student Art Exhibition ~ Open all week at the Clear Lake Arts Center
    • Celebrating youth and creativity! This colorful exhibition features the artworks of area students.  Stop in and check it out!
  7. Surf Enrichment Center
    • Beginner Knitting! Learn how to cast on, knit, purl, cast off, finish a product, read a pattern and how to take a gauge while making a washcloth.  Bring a pair of size 8 knitting needles and medium weight yarn.  Register by calling 641-422-4358.  Cost is $20.
  8. Mason City YMCA Spring Break Camp ~ All Week Long
    • If you’re stuck at work all week while the kiddos are off school, I suggest looking at what the YMCA has to offer! This awesome camp is jam-packed full of activities.  They are open from 7AM to 6PM the entire week (3/9-3/13) and the cost is $30 per day or $105 for the week.
    • Activities are scheduled as such:
      1. Monday – Roller City 1-3PM
      2. Tuesday – ISU Stem Camp 10-11AM and Swim 1-3PM
      3. Wednesday – Bowling 10AM ($4/child) and Rock Climbing 1-3PM
      4. Thursday – Prairie Playground 10-11AM and Swim 1-3PM
      5. Friday – Library 10-11AM and Lime Creek 1-2PM

There you have it, folks.  Enough endeavors to keep those kiddos engaged and energized throughout the week.  The forecast looks like it’ll be a true depiction of “Spring” Break, with mild temps in the upper 30s and low 40s for the duration.

Have a wonderful Spring Break!
