Exhibition: Windows in the Church of Nature by Tom Dakin
This exhibit traces an unintentional journey of self-awareness that began years ago with a deck of cards using animals to reflect human behavior. From that starting point, Tom Dakin explored cross-stitch animal patterns, then beading, and eventually moved fluidly between media, creating new designs along the way. About six years ago, his muse led him to glass, where the work has continued to evolve. The show blends influences of mosaic, petroglyph, cave painting, prairie school, and fantasy, featuring totems that hold personal meaning for the artist while inviting universal reflection, reminding us that even an ant casts a shadow. Dakin hopes viewers reconnect with the fleeting joy of encountering wildlife and consider the value of recognizing and emulating the positive traits of other beings, a central idea of this “Church.” On view until February 28th

Color the Wind: Canceled
On Monday, February 16th we made the decision to cancel the 2026 Color the Wind Kite Festival due to unsafe ice conditions near the shoreline on Clear Lake. After closely monitoring the ice in partnership with local safety officials, it was determined that the ice is not stable enough to host the event. Safety is always our top priority. We also explored moving the festival to land, but FAA regulations, space limitations, parking, and lack of electricity make that option unworkable. We know how much this event means to our community and visitors. Our team is just as disappointed, but safety must come first.
Thank you for your support of Color the Wind. We look forward to better conditions and bringing the festival back next year, Feb. 20, 2027. Please enjoy the activities that will continue on Saturday hosted by the Clear Lake Arts Center & Clear Lake Public Library.

A Studio Activity in Wind, Light & Color Through Shape
Step into a world of color, light, and imagination in this hands-on art activity for all ages. Participants will design your own stained-glass inspired window using construction paper and glowing cellophane, exploring how layered shapes transform when light shines through. Inspired by Tom Dakin’s solo exhibition Windows in the Church of Nature in the Hanson Gallery, this activity invites you to observe the bold shapes and movement of kites. Take inspiration from both the gallery and outdoors during the Kite Festival. Create a viewfinder to help choose your composition. Translate what you see into a one-of-a-kind design to take home, discovering how light, color, and shape work together through observation and creative play. Perfect for curious creators who love nature, color, and art that shines.

A Taste of Solitude
Please join us for an event to explore the power of art and food. When life feels like too much what do you do, where do you go to detach, to re-set if only for a moment or two? This is the power of art. It can take us to places we have been before and to places we have never been….but where we can feel peace. Come taste, see, feel, and listen to the sounds that can lead us to a place of calm and rest.
