Pastel Seasons: Recent Pastels Portraying the Midwest by Tom Christopher
Celebrate the vibrant pastel paintings of Tom Christopher. This exhibit highlights Christopher’s beautiful approach to working with pastels of various landscapes depicting different seasons shown throughout the Midwest. The Pastel Seasons exhibit will be on display until December 20th.
Arts Center is open Tuesday-Saturday, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM. Exhibit runs through December 20, 2024.

Cards & Creativity
Cards & Creativity meets every Thursday that the library is open at 1:00 p.m. This is a weekly opportunity to meet up with others to play games or engage in your creative outlet of choice. You can work on fiber art, writing, music, drawing, or anything else that inspires you! We’ll provide coloring supplies and cards for you to use!

Brave New World Book Club: Lord of the Flies
Dystopia is an imagined state or society in which there is great suffering or injustice. Usually these imagined states end up ominously reflective of our own society. Lord of the Flies by William Golding: Get ready for an adventure tale in its purest form, a thrilling and elegantly told account of a group of British schoolboys marooned on a tropical island. Alone in a world of uncharted possibilities, devoid of adult supervision or rules, the boys begin to forge their own society, their own rules, their own rituals. With this seemingly romantic premise, and through the seemingly innocent acts of children, Golding exposes the duality of human nature itself: the dark, eternal divide between order and chaos, intellect and instinct, structure and savagery.

Michael Cavanaugh’s A Merry Rockin’ Christmas
Michael blew us away last year, and he is excited to come back to Mason City in time for the holidays. Michael Cavanaugh combines modern Christmas songs such as “Last Christmas” and “Wonderful Christmastime” with classic holiday hits like “Jingle Bell Rock,” “Winter Wonderland,” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” to create a fun, rockin’ musical show for the yuletide season. Sprinkle in a selection of classic pop and rock songs by Billy Joel, Elton John, and more. And…even Scrooge will be dancing in the aisles!

The Giving Tree has returned again this year and marks the beginning of the giving season. It also marks a transition of Clear Lake Kids and Families in Need, the organization that runs The Giving Tree.
Clear Lake Kids and Families in Need will continue partnering with the school and community organizations as a community based nonprofit organization. They will continue to help meet needs in the community as before, as well as partnering with the Share Life Kids’ Cafe, the Winter Share Shop and, of course, The Giving Tree.
