Those race directors over at TRI Clear Lake, they sure know how to keep us all on our toes, right? Switching things up, keeping the race fresh and relevant in the triathlon world. Last year, it was the addition of the Olympic distance. Which, I must say, was a smashing success! The number of participants who chose to “go the extra mile” – or in this case, miles – was phenomenal.
So what’s the big news this year, you ask? Here’s a little hint…

When you’re alone and life is making you lonely
You can always go – downtown.
When you’ve got worries all the noise and the hurry

Just listen to the music of the traffic in the city

That’s right, friends. TRI Clear Lake is heading downtown!!!
While the swim portion has always taken place off State Beach, it will now be moved to the City Beach area, creating a buzzing atmosphere of energy for athletes and spectators. Swimmers will get to enjoy deeper waters while families watch the swim. They’ll also get to witness the flurry of activity as athletes’ transition between the swim, bike and run.
Transition will be located between the seawall and the bandshell, which is SUPER exciting! I think I’m the most anxious for this, because it will be easier for people to see what happens in transition. Last year, I was a volunteer at the transition area out at State Beach and it was an incredible experience to watch these athletes – on all different levels – come in from one event, change their gear, and head out on the next event.
I seriously cannot wait for others to witness this!!
Bringing the event downtown has so many incredible perks. Just the sheer fact that it’s all bundled into one area is awesome in itself. But the best part being when athletes cross the finish line, they won’t have to travel back to State Beach to retrieve their stuff. They can take their time to enjoy our fantastic finish line party, and then head on into transition when they’re ready to pack up and go.
How awesome is that?!?!
In its 5th year, TRI Clear Lake has made a name for itself in the triathlon circuit within the Midwest, and beyond, as being a top-notch event. Every year, racers descend upon Clear Lake, making it a family affair for the weekend to enjoy our many amenities in our picturesque lake town. This year, as the event falls on Memorial Day weekend, you will get to enjoy an EXTRA day of family fun at the lake!
TRI Clear Lake really is a phenomenal experience and we’re SO excited to bring it downtown.
