Good afternoon fellow citizens of Clear Lake!  Hopefully you are all still holding tight to those New Year’s Resolutions and haven’t fallen off the bandwagon quite yet!  As I began to organize my month of blog post ideas and topics, I clicked on my always-favorite “National Days” for the month.

And guess what?!?!  I found out that TODAY is National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, which means I just had to get something written up quick for our local crew in blue!

Granted, it was also National Static Electricity Day and National Apricot Day.

So clearly… my choice of topic for today was obvious!

National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day was founded in 2015 to thank officers across the country for all the daily sacrifices they make for their communities.  They’ve answered a call to public service that is demanding and often unappreciated.

You know when we are at all the incredible events hosted in our fabulous town… there is a slew of law enforcement working diligently to ensure our safety.  Remember that next summer as you stroll through Main Street on a Thursday night, or while you enjoy a delicious fresh-squeezed lemonade during the 4th of July Carnival.

And while we should be more mindful of our local law enforcement and remember to thank them, On National Law Enforcement Day we have a special opportunity to thank them and offer a token of respect.

So what can you do?  Well, since the actual day is today, I suggest you post a photo of yourself wearing blue, or turn your social media channel blue and use the National hashtag #NationalLawEnforcementAppreciationDay to show your support.  You could also give our local, county or state police agencies a great big shout out of “THANKS!” on their social media pages.

Anything to spread encouragement and respect to these dedicated men and women.

Incidentally, these fine folks will be a part of an Active Shooter Program education program offered to Chamber members, their companies and employees.

This will be held in the Council Chambers of the Clear Lake City Hall on Friday, January 18th from 9:45 to 11:45am.  This is an incredibly important program that can be part of your company safety program as well as your wellness program.

We hope to see you there!
