Lady of the Lake kicks off 35th Season

BY: RACHEL WUMKES

To begin its 35th season of operation on Clear Lake, the Lady of the Lake will set sail Memorial Day weekend.  Prepped and primed, she’s ready to take passengers on a cruising adventure, as well as welcome live music and guests to dockside nights all summer long.

In my feeble attempt at creativity, I sat with a cup of coffee and watched the rain gently trickle from the clouds this morning.  I thought it would help me find the right words to describe what the Lady of the Lake means to this town.

Because honestly, how does one depict such a thing with only words?

The Lady of the Lake is so much more.  It’s that sense of grandeur, being 7 years old and feeling like you are stepping onto the Titanic.  A sense of freedom as the wind blows through your hair and you soak up the sun from the top deck.  The toot of her horn at kids frolicking near the shore as she makes her way around Clear Lake.

She is everything good and right about being at the Lake in the summer, and there just aren’t enough words in the English language to describe that feeling.

So, what does a blogger do?  Well, I turn to music.  And not just any music, specifically songs about the female gender began to filter through my mind.  Some legendary tunes, some hilariously inappropriate.  And then, like Goldilocks and the 3 Bears – there was the perfect fit.

First up was My Girl by The Temptations which, while iconic, just didn’t feel quite right.  Of course, you’d have to be living under a rock for all of eternity if you don’t recognize Pretty Woman by Roy Orbison.  But that’s more associated with the pop culture movie and just seemed too snooty-falooty for our Lady.

Yes, snooty-falooty is a real phrase.

Queens Fat Bottomed Girls came to mind next.  To be honest, I giggled.  I mean, technically, it would work since Lady does tend to carry her weight on the bottom end.  But then I decided it’s just plain mean to do that to any woman – whether they be human or a boat.

Finally, it hit me.  Tom Jones’ hit released in 1971 is the epitome of the Lady of the Lake.

Well, she’s all you’d ever want,
She’s the kind they’d like to flaunt and take to dinner.
Well she always knows her place.
She’s got style, she’s got grace, She’s a winner.

She’s a Lady. Whoa whoa whoa,
She’s a Lady.
Talkin’ about that little lady,
And the lady is mine
.

The Lady of the Lake begins her summer voyages across Clear Lake this weekend.  They will be open dockside during TRI Clear Lake, so be sure to stop by for a little morning jolt.  Plus, it’s quite a sight to see all those athletes during the swim from the upper deck!

Their cruise schedule for the holiday weekend is as follows:

Saturday – 1:30pm

Sunday – 1:30pm & 4:00pm

Monday – 5:00pm

Be sure to follow Lady of the Lake on Facebook and look for updated cruise schedules and other important information on their website – http://cruiseclearlake.com/

June 1st is the official start to “Dockside night” with live music by The Mockingbirds. More bands will be announced as the weeks progress!

Happy cruising, friends!  And congrats to our beloved Lady of the Lake on 35 years of making memories on beautiful Clear Lake.
