There’s Still Time to Train for TRI Clear Lake!
Thinking about trying a triathlon but not sure where to start? TRI Clear Lake is just 10 weeks away, and there’s still plenty of time to get race-ready—even if you’re new to the sport! TRI Clear Lake is a beginner-friendly sprint triathlon in Clear Lake, IA, typically held the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend each year. This year’s date is Saturday, May 24, 2025. We kick things off on Friday with a kid’s Splash & Dash!
Why TRI Clear Lake?
Not only is TRI Clear Lake a fun and welcoming event, but it’s also the USA Triathlon Iowa State Championship race! Don’t let that title intimidate you—this just means you’ll be part of a well-organized, top-notch event that’s great for both beginners and experienced racers. Whether your goal is to finish strong, challenge yourself, or just have fun, you’ll be supported every step of the way.
Since we first started TRI Clear Lake in 2018, participation has grown year after year—especially among Clear Lakers—making a lasting impact on our community’s health, wellness, and culture.
How Long Does Training Take?
Not as long as you might think! Even if you’re starting from scratch, you can build up to race day with a simple, structured plan.
4-8 weeks – If you’re already active and comfortable swimming, biking, and running, you can get tri-ready in 8 weeks or even 4 if you’re experienced.
12 weeks – A great target for beginners, giving you time to build endurance and confidence.
16 weeks – If you’re starting fresh, a longer plan allows you to ease in and develop good habits.
Training Made Simple
You don’t need to train like a pro to enjoy your first triathlon. Here’s how to make the most of your time:
✅ Swim, bike, and run most days of the week – Rotate workouts to build stamina in all three disciplines.
✅ Take at least one rest day – Recovery is just as important as training.
✅ Stack workouts in the final weeks – Practice swimming, biking, and running together to simulate race day.
✅ Master the basics first – Focus on form, efficiency, and pacing before ramping up intensity.
Still on the Fence?
Imagine crossing that finish line, feeling the energy of the crowd, and knowing you conquered the challenge. You don’t have to be the fastest—just determined. Sign up today, grab a training buddy, and start your journey.
