A few weeks ago, I wrote a blog letting the North Iowa area know of a new event coming to the Surf Ballroom over Labor Day Weekend.  An event that, the more I read up on the acts and listen to their music, I think is going to be absolutely incredible.

Trop Rock & Roll’s Island Fever Showcase is going to be chocked full of amazing talent.  I was recently given a CD of hits from the various artists, to familiarize myself with their music.  This morning, as I sat down at my desk, I thought to myself, “How the heck do I choose the first artist to showcase?”

So I pop in the CD and cue up the first song.  In true Rachel Smith fashion, after the first verse I was having a dance party in my office (a perk of working from home, all alone, where no one can see me).

If I looked a little more like Elvis

Played like Stevie Ray

If I could write a song like Willie Nelson

& Sing it like Marvin Gaye

Then would ya love me better

& maybe wanna be my girl?

We could live like Jimmy Buffett

On a faraway shore

I immediately had the urge to be sitting on a white, sandy beach while drinking a strawberry pina colada.

I mean… it’s 5 o’clock somewhere, right?

The owner of this awesome tune is none other than the Master of Ceremonies, Donny Brewer.  Donny is a nine-time Trop Rock Music Association Award winner and the 2017 TRMA Entertainer of the Year.  He is one of the most in demand solo artists in the genre, but also performs with his band, The Dock Rockers.

Being a multi-instrumentalist, Brewer is fluent in playing the guitar, bass, keyboard and percussion.  With 30 as a musician, songwriter and engineer, he has three albums under his belt that encompass the true spirit and passion of Trop Rock.

This is just ONE of the performers during this epic musical event.  I think I’ve leafed through the brochure at least fifty times, and it’s still hard for me to wrap my brain around the fact that all this talent is coming to Clear Lake.

And even better… the Trop Rock nation of Parrott Heads are coming along with them.  Personally, I cannot wait to show them what Clear Lake, our premiere Midwest vacation destination, is all about!
