Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce Seeks Next President/CEO
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce works to promote area business and industry through opportunities in networking, advocacy, and business resources. The Chamber is conducting a search for its next President & CEO to manage this dynamic local organization. Ideal candidates will have previous Chamber or related experience, as well as developed ability in leadership, organization, and communication. The position requires a self-disciplined, self-starter able to lead with an open-minded approach toward the evolving needs of members and businesses in the community.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervision of Chamber staff to ensure their effectiveness
- Community relations
- Coordination of the annual work plan
- Responsible for organizational structure and procedures
- Motivate Chamber volunteers
- Supervise membership maintenance and recruitment
- Maintain the building facilities
- Strategic planning of the organization
- Work closely with the Board of Directors and planning committees
WORK REQUIREMENTS:
- Post-secondary education preferred, or 5-7 years of related leadership and management experience
- Requires attendance at various business functions after and before hours within and outside of Clear Lake; overnight travel required at times
- Experience in financial and marketing strategy
- Ability to learn and operate basic office equipment
- Working knowledge of Windows-based software including Microsoft Word, Excel, Microsoft Publisher, PowerPoint and Outlook. Also, social media including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other programs as utilized by the Chamber
- Knowledge of the internet and utilization of online marketing opportunities
- Hearing and vision within the normal range
- Substantial amount of time devoted to written and oral communications
- Willingness to be trained and implement newly acquired skills
POSITION DETAILS:
- Responsible for the hiring, discharging, training and supervising of all office personnel in accordance with the policies approved by the Board of Directors
- Maintain a visitor friendly, customer service-oriented office atmosphere, assuring office staffing during business hours
- Complete staff evaluations for all personnel
- Recommend goals and projects for the Chamber to the Board of Directors
- Formulate, with the help of the Finance Committee, the annual operating and capital budgets for recommendation and approval of the Board
- Ensure that the financial statements are prepared on a monthly basis
- Sign, with the respective Chair or Treasurer, all leases, mortgages, notices, contracts and legal documents approved by the respective Board of Directors
- Serve as ex-officio member of the Chamber Board of Directors and internal committees of the Chamber as needed
- Be knowledgeable of the activities, needs and concerns of area businesses and industries, calling on Chamber members on a weekly basis
- Communicate with and represent the Chamber to other civic organizations, as well as other local, state, and national organizations
- Promote good relations with the media presenting a unified front for industry, retail, services, and city government by sharing the Chamber mission and objectives
- Consult confidentially with existing and/or potential small business prospects, both retail and industrial, referring larger prospects to the North Iowa Corridor Economic Development Corporation
- Stay informed of current and correct information on available buildings, land, and other development information, being identified as the local resource and clearinghouse for such information
- Oversee effectiveness and continuous improvement to Chamber organized events
- Organize and facilitate Clear Lake Washington DC/Des Moines legislative visits
- Serve as the organizational representative to the collaborative Vision North Iowa Partnership Executive Board & Advisory Board
COMPENSATION:
- Salary range $70,000+, based on applicable skills and experience
