Get ready for a magical weekend of kite-flying fun!

BY: RACHEL WUMKES

Typically, my ‘Feel Good Friday’ blog posts are a culmination of all the exciting things that happened throughout the week at the Lake.  But this week, I just can’t count down the hours fast enough to get to TOMORROW!!!!

If you have never experienced the wonder and beauty of a giant kite floating through the air, you simply MUST get downtown to check out Color the Wind.  Kiters from around the globe will have their massive kite displays flying high above the frozen lake on Saturday from 11am – 4pm.

And you guys, when I say massive kite displays, I mean MASSIVE KITE DISPLAYS!

Every color.

Every shape.

Every object you could imagine.

It is seriously the coolest thing to see.

A few tips to ensure you have a fabulous day include:

  • Wear sunglasses. I cannot stress enough how much you need these!
  • Dress Warm. It’s winter in Iowa, people.
  • Parking is available at the high school. A shuttle will run throughout the entirety of the event to get you to and from downtown.

On a side note, if you do plan to drive downtown to park, make note of these road closures from the Clear Lake Police Department!

A lot of your favorite eateries will be open on Saturday.  Stop in for a quick bite and to warm up.  Also, along the street near the Yacht Club will be food trucks.

The Surf Ballroom will be open from 9am – 1pm for self-guided tours (and if you need a place to warm your toes!).   The Clear Lake Arts Center is open from 10am – 4pm.

Also, before the event, the North Iowa Children’s Museum is holding their first fundraiser, Wind Discovery, at the Hub from 9am – 11am.  Bring the kiddos out for some mini doughnuts, story time, a kite activity (courtesy of the Arts Center) and drawings to win an awesome new kite!

In other Clear Lake news, the Girls basketball team is headed to Algona on Saturday to take on Estherville Lincoln Central.  Tickets must be purchased in advance online.  Go Lions!

Also, Max Currier is on to day #2 at the State Wrestling meet.  I don’t claim to know or understand much about the sport, but from what I hear, he is doing well!  Way to represent, Max!

Thus, I shall bid you adieu for the week.  Thanks for another fabulous week at the Lake.  I hope each of you has a fabulous weekend filled with fellowship, family and friends as you take in all the winter fun at the Lake.
