Happy March, my friends!  It appears the month ‘came in like a lamb’ which I’m hoping means if it must ‘go out like a lion’ it will be a thunderstorm and not a snowstorm.

The warm temps and continually melting snow has renewed my outlook on life.  Funny how much you don’t realize the dreary grayness of winter affects your mood until the warm sunshine hits your face a few days in a row.  It’s like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders.

Albeit, that COVID weight on the rest of my body is still lingering!

As we speak, the Chamber office is getting a fresh new upgrade to welcome the change of seasons.  Special thanks to Woodford Lumber & Home and Swarty’s LLC, the office painting is officially underway.  It’s a much needed and long overdue refresh for our dingy walls!

In other Clear Lake news, the girls’ basketball team ended another fantastic season with a tough loss to Unity Christian at the State Tournament down in Des Moines.  While it may not have been the outcome they hoped for, we are so very proud of them and their representation of Clear Lake!  Next week, the boys will travel to Des Moines to take on Ballard in the first game of their tournament!  We wish them the best of luck!

In case you missed the announcement, the Mason City Airport has a new jet service provider connecting North Iowans to the Chicago O’Hare International Airport.  United and Skywest Airlines have begun their daily roundtrip flights between Mason City and The Windy City.  Customers in our region can book flights online and connect to almost anywhere through Chicago.  It’s a great service for those looking for ease in travelling, as well as to save on parking costs.

To round out this Friday of feel-good awesomeness, did you know Clear Lake will soon have a shoe store located along Main Ave?  Going into the old Emerson’s location, Skip’s Kicks will open on Memorial weekend, offering high end running shoes, as well as casual shoes and boots for men, women, and kids.  They will be a welcomed addition to the already incredible shops on Main Ave, and we look forward to checking them out!

Just around the corner, going into the old Fieldhouse location (between Ge-Jo’s and the Basic Birder) is Cancun Mexican Restaurant.  A staple of delicious south of the border cuisine in Clear Lake, you may remember when they were located along Hwy 18 not long ago.

We are excited for both future Chamber Members to open their doors!

Grab yourself a new pair of shoes, and then run on around the corner and celebrate with some queso and a margarita!  Now that’s living your best life, folks!

With an upcoming forecast of spring-like weather on the horizon, it’s time to shake off those winter blues and get back to the land of the living.  You guys were an incredible asset to our many small businesses and local shops through COVID and the off-season.  Still, the time has come to ramp up our shopping local efforts once again, so we can slide into the summer tourist months full of prosperity for our region.

See you at the Lake, my friends!
