National Random Acts of Kindness Day!

BY: RACHEL WUMKES

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve posted a Feel Good Friday blog.  And what better reason than being National Random Acts of Kindness Day!  This day was brought about in 1995 by the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation to encourage people to show kindness.  The whole ‘pay it forward’ mentality shines a bright light on an otherwise dark and stressful world.  With devastation and destruction leading the news, a bit of good is sometimes all you need.

And so, today, we encourage each of you to perform one kind act toward another person.  Maybe you hold open a door.  Or pay the tab for the car behind you at the drive through.  You could send a nice text to someone.  Leave happy notes hidden around town.  Or simply give a compliment to strangers throughout the day.

Whatever you choose, do it with a smile and love in your heart!

It should be easy to do, especially today, because the sun is shining and it’s another fabulous Friday at the Lake!

We are especially excited today as we are on the cusp of the Midwest’s largest Kite Festival, Color the Wind.  Tomorrow morning, people will come from every direction to enjoy the colorful kites flying high above our frozen lake.

In true Clear Lake fashion, various bars and restaurants have booked a variety of bands to play throughout the day.  After you enjoy all the wonder and beauty these professional kiters have on display, warm up at one of these locations and soak up some live music.

You know how we LOVE to keep the music alive in Clear Lake!

Tap’d – Main Ave:  Tom & Betsy Kirby of Mason City’s Betty & the Gents will play from 1:00pm – 4:00pm.

Sunset Sharky’s – South Shore Drive:  Jesse Calvert plays from 3:00pm – 6:00pm.

Tap’d – Main Ave: For their 2nd show of the day, Jesse Wilson will play from 5:00pm – 8:00pm.

173 Craft Distillery – First Ave North: Catch singer-songwriter, Brian Herrin, live from 6:00pm – 8:00pm.

Surf Ballroom – North Shore Drive: Doors open at 8pm for a Mardi Gras Party with Hairball.

We encourage everyone who attends to enjoy the day in Clear Lake.  Grab a bite to eat at one of our incredible restaurants.  Pop into the various retail hot spots and do a bit of shopping.  The weather looks to be low 40s and sunny, who could ask for more?

Well, our girls’ basketball team could!!  On Saturday they will travel to State Center for the ISHSAU 3A Region 4 Championship game.  There, they will take on West Marshall.  The winner will advance to the state tournament in Des Moines.

Whew!  That’s a whole lot of feelin’ good for one Friday!

We hope our residents and guests have a fabulous weekend at the Lake enjoying all the winter fun!  And don’t forget to sprinkle kindness around like confetti.
