Exhibition: Common Thread by artist, Elizabeth Morisette
The ability to innovate the approach to artistry is what keeps work alive. Elizabeth Morisette continues to participate in transformative quilting workshops that refine their craft. Inspired by traditional log cabin techniques and the quilts of Gee’s Bend, they began experimenting with structure and storytelling through fabric. Amid current news coverage consumed by Morisette, certain repeated words sparked their creative process, influencing patterns, colors, and textures. The resulting collection, Common Thread reflects the connections that unite us, with recurring fabrics symbolizing our shared experiences. This exhibition invites viewers to explore the power of quilting as both art and narrative, weaving together themes of identity, history, and community. On view until May 3rd.

Brave New World Book Club: City of Ember
Dystopia is an imagined state or society in which there is great suffering or injustice. Usually these imagined states end up ominously reflective of our own society. The City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau: The city of Ember was built as a last refuge for the human race. Two hundred years later, the great lamps that light the city are beginning to dim. When Lina finds part of an ancient message, she’s sure it holds a secret that will save the city. Now, she and her friend Doon must race to figure out the clues to keep the lights on. If they succeed, they will have to convince everyone to follow them into danger. But if they fail? The lights will burn out and the darkness will close in forever.

Book Chat: Lab Girl
Book Chat meets on the third Tuesday of every month at 12:00 pm in the library meeting room. Lab Girl by Hope Jahren: In these pages, Hope takes us back to her Minnesota childhood, where she spent hours in unfettered play in her father’s college laboratory. She tells us how she found a sanctuary in science, learning to perform lab work “with both the heart and the hands.” She introduces us to Bill, her brilliant, eccentric lab manager. And she extends the mantle of scientist to each one of her readers, inviting us to join her in observing and protecting our environment. Warm, luminous, compulsively readable, Lab Girl vividly demonstrates the mountains that we can move when love and work come together.
