Classics Book Club: Franklin Delano Roosevelt
A protean figure and a man of massive achievement, Franklin Delano Roosevelt was the only man to be elected to the presidency more than twice. In a ranking of chief executives, no more than three of his predecessors could truly be placed in contention with his standing, and of his successors, there are so far none. In acute, stylish prose, Roy Jenkins tackles all of the nuances and intricacies of FDR’s character. He was a skilled politician with astounding flexibility; he oversaw an incomparable mobilization of American industrial and military effort; and, all the while, he aroused great loyalty and dazzled those around him with his personal charm. Despite several setbacks and one apparent catastrophe, his life was buoyed by the influence of Eleanor, who was not only a wife but an adviser and one of the twentieth century’s greatest political reformers.

While Paul is convalescing, Annie reads his latest book and becomes enraged when she discovers the author has killed off her favorite character, Misery Chastain. Annie forces Paul to write a new Misery novel, and he quickly realizes Annie has no intention of letting him go anywhere. The irate Annie has Paul writing as if his life depends on it, and it does.

“Slam Dunk” Against Hunger Online Fundraiser
Older Iowans and their caregivers are experiencing food insecurity at an increasing rate due to inflation and the overall cost of living. Many rely on the Elderbridge congregate and home-delivered meals for their primary daily food intake. State and federal funding for meal programs has not increased to meet the growing demand for older Iowans’ nutritional assistance.

Elderbridge is asking for assistance for our congregate and home-delivered meals. Funds raised will support and assist us in reducing the need for waiting lists for our nutrition programs. All funds received may be designated to specific meal sites/counties or the general nutrition budget and be sent directly to Elderbridge.
Under the Older Americans Act participants who meet the following criteria are considered Eligible diners and can eat with a confidential voluntary contribution:
Any individual age 60 or older and that individual’s spouse (regardless of age)
An individual with disabilities of any age who is living and dining with an individual 60 or over.
An individual with disabilities of any age who is living in a senior housing complex where Senior Nutrition Program meals are served.
A volunteer providing service during meal hours.
