Odd blog title, isn’t it?  What is it you don’t need a reason for?

Skip work? Buy that outfit you’ve been eyeing at the store?  Eat a dozen chocolate chip cookies for lunch?

Turns out… all of the above.

Our friends inside the internet have deemed today National “Just Because” Day.  Basically, a good excuse to do whatever you feel like with the validation that it’s okay.

And it’s real.  Like, really a real thing.  Apparently, the day was created in the late 1950s by Joseph J. Goodwin of Los Gatos, California.  What started as a family holiday soon grew into an annual celebration across the United States.

Who’d have ever thought?

The best part is that you get to celebrate this day any way you choose.  Every day, we all do the things that are expected or required of us.  I know none of the young people want to hear it… but enjoy your youth as much as you possibly can.  Being an adult is totally not all it’s cracked up to be.

There are so many ‘rules’ in our life we must follow.  Social norms that keep everyone in line so we’re not labeled crazy or weird by our peers.  And, of course, they’re all contradicting of one another.

I mean, you need to save money for the future but yet live for today!  You need to eat healthy and exercise but then are preached ‘life is short… eat the cake!’  You’re supposed to leave the dishes and the laundry and let your house be a complete disaster so you play with your kids.  Yet… it needs to be done at some point, right?  As far as I know, cleaning fairies are not real.

So today is the day.  The one day that you can do whatever… just because.  And maybe you take this ‘holiday’ to a new level of awesomeness.  Maybe you bring a friend lunch.  Maybe you buy the coffee of the person in line behind you.  Maybe you send a random gift to someone who’s struggling, just to brighten their day.

If there’s one thing I know… Clear Lakers are kind-hearted, generous people.  So let’s make today a good day.  A day to make people smile.  A day to do whatever makes us happy.

Just because!
