There are hundreds upon hundreds of sayings concerning the weekends. ‘Everybody’s Working for the Weekend’ is a favorite. Another common phrase is to tell co-workers ‘Happy weekend’ on Friday afternoon.
I have one friend, who shall remain unnamed, that declares quite often she ‘Really needs a day between Saturday and Sunday!’ I completely agree. I mean, who wouldn’t love that?
In my random research about weekend vibes I came across these two that totally cracked me up: ‘Better days are coming. They are called Saturday & Sunday.’ And then ‘It’s Thursday. I can smell the weekend from here!’
Well, the good news is, since we live in the most awesome little tourist lake town in Iowa, there’s something going on all the time! Not just weekends, but our weekdays are jam-packed with fun activities and events as well.
However, for the purpose of today’s post, the focus is on the weekend. As I sifted through the information on the Clear Lake Community Calendar to create an events email for today, I noticed the next TWO weekends at the Lake are big.
This is exciting, because a little birdy told me the temperatures are supposed to come around and be decent. Apparently Mother Nature and Old Man Winter still haven’t made up after the doozy of a snow-apocalypse they created for us a few months ago. Thus, it’s been cold. And wet. And miserable lately.
But alas – there is hope for sun and warmth and flowers and everything SPRING soon. Which is good, because Saturday is the first round of the city-wide garage sales. One man’s trash might just be your treasure, so grab a map from the Mirror Reporter and find those bargains!
Also, I just saw today on Facebook that Larson’s Mercantile has their ferns out for the season. I swear, each time I drive down Main Street, the various flowers and plants multiply along their building. And now… ferns! Yay!
On the subject of foliage and such… let’s spring ahead to the following week. Central Gardens will be hosting their annual Plant Sale and Gardening Fair on Saturday, May 18th from 8am – Noon. Stop out for this free event and enjoy all the Gardens have to offer.
Then, be sure to buzz over to the Surf Ballroom parking lot because it’s opening day of the Clear Lake Farmer’s Market!! YES!
Not even kidding, I just salivated at the thought of fresh produce and goodies.
The market opens at 9am and I suggest you get there early for optimum browsing and shopping opportunities. As always, they will have entertainment and special activities throughout the season, so be sure to like them on Facebook HERE to keep up to date.
Lastly, you are likely to see a slew of fishing boats and such on the water that weekend, as the Clear Lake Fishing Club will hold its annual Walleye Classic on May 18th & 19th. For more details about how to sign up, prizes and rules, go to www.clearlakefishingclub.com
Wow. That’s a lot going on the next few weekends. And then Memorial Day is here which means the events explode. The good news is, whether you live at the Lake or vacation at the Lake… every day is a weekend when it’s summer.
