Finally, a National Day made just for me. Well, me and all my super-awesome, book-nerd friends! YAY!
The 4th Wednesday in January has officially been deemed National Library Shelfie Day. No… that’s not a typo. I actually thought it was Library SELFIE day, and had this great post all planned out inside my head of promoting our remarkable local library.
Then I found out it was National SHELFIE Day.
Wait… what? What the heck is that?
The New York Public Library founded this day as a way to celebrate and observe the love for books. It seems to be the day one is supposed to arrange their personal book collection on a shelf and snap a picture. Being that everything we now do in life needs to be documented on social media, you are to post your “shelfie” using the hashtag #LibraryShelfieDay.
Seems kind of strange, but it got me thinking about all the bookshelves in my own house.
**Shameless Plug Ahead**
Being a published author of three romance novels and two children’s books, I have a very special place in my heart for books. I’m also one of the co-hosts of the North Iowa Book Bash held at the Best Western in Clear Lake the first weekend in April. My personal bookshelf in my home office is loaded with romance novels, angsty young adult dramas, and even some paranormal books by fellow author friends.
Incidentally, you can purchase all of my books at Amazon.com, and my children books are also available at the Clear Lake Chamber office.
If you’ve a book-lover and have never been to Book Bash, I suggest you check it out this year. In fact, for a list of attending authors and up to date information click HERE.
But my personal bookshelf isn’t even the biggest or best in my house. Each of my children seem to have accumulated their own personal library throughout the years. Books, books and more books, packed onto bookshelves, into storage compartments. They’re everywhere!
And I know America is on this super-organization trip with the popular Netflix show, Tidying Up with Marie Kondo, who says you should keep no more than 30 books on your shelf, but I just can’t seem to part with them.
They must bring me lots of joy! LOL.
So anyway, today is the day to arrange your book collection, whether it’s a fabulous display or a few titles, and snap a “shelfie.”
And if you don’t have a collection, head on over to the Clear Lake Public Library, and snap a shelfie in your favorite aisle. We are blessed to have a top-notch, gorgeous facility to feed our need to curl up with a good book during these long, cold, winter months.
