So while I was down and out with the flu last week, it appears we missed a very important day. As I’ve said before, I really don’t know who decides these ‘National Days’ but they are kind of fun, and they’re perfect for someone like me who’s always looking for interesting content that I can somehow to relate to Clear Lake.
Last week Wednesday was not only Valentine’s Day… but it was also Library Lover’s Day! And for a little book worm nerd like myself, that’s like the best day EVER.
If you haven’t been to the fabulous Clear Lake Library, you need to get your buns over there – STAT! It’s an incredible place run by some of the friendliest people. Even when my kids were little (and loud… always so loud) they were patient and helpful and so excited when the kids found the book they wanted to read next.
And while some people might have the idea in their head that they don’t like to read so there’s nothing for them to do at the Library, they are wrong! The Clear Lake Library has SO many cool activities, especially those that engage our youth to read, build and grow.
For younger kids, there is Story Time, the summer reading program, a Lego Club (yes, you read that correctly!), Wonderful Wednesday’s for 1st through 3rd graders, and then Marvelous Mondays for 4th and 5th graders.
Teens also can get together on the first Tuesday of every month for Teen Tuesday. This program is for kids in grades sixth through twelfth.
Now… when I was a kid you went to the library, checked out a physical book, took it home to read and then brought it back when you’re done. Now days, it seems the digital age has begun to creep in, and the norm is slowly moving toward borrowing media via your desktop browser or even with their mobile app.
This service is called Hoopla. It is the groundbreaking digital media service offered from the Library that allows you borrow movies, music, audiobooks, ebooks, comics and TV shows to enjoy on your computer, tablet, or phone – it even works on your TV! With no waiting, titles can be streamed immediately.
This is extremely important for our “need it now” mentality!!
Or you can download the content and enjoy offline at a later time. The Clear Lake Library has hundreds of thousands of titles to choose from, with more being added daily.
But for those of you who prefer to stick your nose in an actual book, never fear, there are still plenty of books to choose from!
With all this crummy weather of snow and ice and frigid temps, what better way to spend our days stuck inside than escaping to a faraway place through a book?!
