Well, folks, we made it. Another 4th of July has come and gone in Clear Lake, leaving behind a slew of happy visitors and tired locals.
And wasn’t it just amazing?
With the threat of rain each day, I’d say we lucked out. Big time. Even with a few showers - and having to delay the fireworks a day – the entire extravaganza was a smashing success, once again.
Today, however, is a bit of a struggle to get back to the reality of the real world. My alarm sounded like nails on a chalkboard this morning, waking me from my peaceful slumber to face yet another busy week of life. I wanted to ignore it, pull the comforter over my head and hide.
The organs inside my body will likely reject any and all food that is not fried, as it seems that’s all I’ve eaten for the past four days. Corn dogs, funnel cake, fried pickles, a giant buckets of cheese balls, and sixteen gallons of fresh-squeezed lemonade. Maybe next year one of the food stands should have a salad option… you know, just to balance out the grease intake a little!
My children rode so many rides at the carnival, there’s a good chance they won’t know up from down today. They lost count after a while, but I know their numbers were in double digits for a few of the crazier rides.
Me? I’m not sure what to do without a concert in the park every night. Man, is that ever a good time!! It’s amazing how Arch Allies totally rock that place every single year, and the people come out in droves. It was extra special this year, having the fireworks at the end of their show!
So today, Clear Lakers, take a day to get yourself centered back into the real world. Keep in mind that many business owners around town are completely exhausted. While you enjoyed the carnival and spent the afternoon floating at State Beach, they busted their butts to accommodate the large crowds of customers. They need a little patience this week as they get themselves back on track.
Because remember… there’s not much of a break when it’s summer in Clear Lake! This week, Thursdays on Main picks back up as we sail into a busy weekend of the Bicycle, Blues & BBQ festival. Also, Saturday afternoon is the annual Brews on the Beach along the seawall. It’ll be another weekend of fun, sun, food and friends!
See you at the Lake!
