They’re called by many names. They’re eaten daily across the Country, typically to get folks started on the right foot in the morning. They can be smothered in jam, peanut butter, whip cream & sprinkles, chocolate chips, butter & syrup, and even meat.
Today is a National Holiday – and I use that term rather loosely – that celebrates my favorite meal of the day… Breakfast.
It’s National Pancake Day, people!!
Wait… but you said ‘covered in meat’ up there.
I sure did. And I feel like maybe I should have a short chat those folks about healthy food choices and whatnot.
Anyway, how perfectly fitting that next weekend (Sunday, October 7th) is the Clear Lake Fire Department’s annual pancake feed!!! The event, as it does every year, serves as the kickoff to National Fire Prevention Week. A full seven days devoted to the education of fire safety and prevention.
At the event, our local firefighting squad will serve up their “special recipe” pancakes, link sausage, coffee and juice. Now… I have no idea what the secret ingredient is to make this their special recipe, but if I had to take a guess, I’d say it’s maybe a dash of bravery, a shake of pride and a lot of love for this community.
Tickets are only $5, and kids 12 & under are free with a paying adult. However, any and all donations above the normal ticket price are accepted and greatly appreciated.
According to the CLFD Facebook Page, the profits from the annual breakfast are used to purchase specialized equipment for both fighting fires, and for rescue. The money is also used to maintain the 9/11 Memorial in front of the fire station, to help with upkeep on the building, as well as improvements to the fire museum, including maintenance and renovations of the antiques on display.
This year, funds raised will also go toward the Cade Hartwig Memorial Scholarship Fund.
It really is a great morning to celebrate this valuable service in our community. Kids can fill their little tummies full of delicious food, and then take a tour inside the super-cool fire trucks parked outside. And who am I kidding? It’s even awesome for adults!
So mark your calendar – right now, so you don’t forget – for Sunday, October 7th. Pancakes are served from 7am until 1pm so there’s plenty of time to stop by and show your support for the best Fire Department around!
See you there!
