What an incredible week we’ve had at the Lake! My goodness. It made me think of the lessons taught in elementary school when nice things happened, filling us with ‘warm fuzzies.’
Last evening, we aired the second installment for the summer of Thursdays OnLine, a virtual masterpiece created with the help of Zion-Clear Lake and Powerhouse Theatre. With special performances by Powerhouse Theatre and musical guests, Betty and the Gents, the theme for the night was ‘Be a Tourist in your own Backyard’ which was in conjunction with the Family Fun Packs put together by Libby Hohn, Clear Lake Tourism Director.
In case you missed it, you can still catch the event streaming on the Thursdays On Main Facebook Page.
Speaking of those Family Fun Packs, don’t forget to stop curbside at the Chamber office FRIDAY starting a 3PM (until gone) to pick up yours! To ensure we can distribute to as many people as possible, we are asking each family take one pack.
So, what can you expect in yours? We asked for donations and the businesses of Clear Lake delivered, once again; going above and beyond to ensure our residents have all the tools needed to be a tourist in their own backyard.
Clear Lake Tourism included bobbers, beach balls, visitor guides, maps, chap stick, a magnet, bicycle routes and a scavenger hunt created by Laura Burleson. The Iowa DNR included easy campfire recipes and an observation hike activity for the go-getters!
ISU Extension added in a 2020 guide to summer activities, and the Association for the Preservation of Clear Lake threw in a membership brochure. The Surf Ballroom included a crash site map, a rock & roll iron-on craft, and a flyer of their summer programs. Coupons or discounts were given for Clear Lake Family Dentistry, Bennigan’s, and Lake Lifestyle.
The First Congregational Church included a turkey cookoff poster and a coloring page. Glen Oaks threw in a fun notepad of things to do. The CLFD added a safety brochure and some stickers. The Lady of the Lake created a coloring page which will be a contest, as well as the postcard contest from the Arts Center (with special thanks to MBT for covering postage).
Also included will be a bracelet from ServePro, a pen from Newman Schools, a bottle opener from N. Iowa Coop, sidewalk chalk from Farmer’s State Bank, a frisbee from Young Construction, a magnetic clip from MP Home Design and a screen cleaner and activity from First Citizens Bank.
Oh, but that’s not all. I mean, it’s already an incredibly awesome fun pack, right? Except there’s more…
Clear Lake Bank & Trust included a plush pug, beach ball, or tumbler. MBT threw in a koozie, and so did CLT&T Insurance. Whew – with no parade this year, I was wondering how I would replenish my koozie supply. So, thank you!
A great big THANK YOU to everyone who donated. As always, I’m floored by the generosity and uplifting encouragement from our area businesses.
After you pickup your Family Fun Pack, be sure to stick around City Park for Food Truck Friday. A night to let someone else do the cooking, and the clean up. Once upon a time we used to say TGIF – thank goodness it’s Friday. And now we say TGIFTF – thank goodness it’s food truck Friday!
Thanks for another FABULOUS week at the Lake! Have a great weekend.
