Our Administrative Assistant, Patsy, loves pie, so we decided to celebrate Pi Day (March 14th, 3.14) with a tour d’pie around Clear Lake. Here’s what we found:

Made-from-scratch Strawberry Banana Pie with real whipped cream from the Back Yard Deli.
Scott bakes from scratch homemade pies daily from Memorial Day to Labor Day at the Back Yard Deli, a Clear Lake icon located on the corner of Main Avenue across from City Park. We called ahead since its off-season, and were totally delighted to dig into one of Scott’s favorite homemade recipes, Strawberry Banana. Served with a tower of real whipped cream, the from-scratch pie was vibrant with the perfect balance of sweetness. The strawberries burst with freshness, and the crust was flaky and delicious; obviously made from scratch. With a revolving menu of Strawberry, Strawberry Banana, Strawberry Rhubarb, Key Lime, Peach, Banana Cream, and more, the pie of the day is proudly listed on their chalkboard outside (and online) along with their daily specials.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Cake Pie from Perkins is a double delight.
If you’re looking for innovative pie, look no further than the Pie Cake at Perkins! We tried the Chocolate Peanut Butter Cake Pie and the Chocolate Cake Pie, and it was a hit with the chocolate lovers in the office! The cake was moist and the filling was velvety, and we enjoyed the different textures within the pie crust.
Their most popular pie is the Chocolate French Silk. Their monthly features accompany the daily selection of Lemon Meringue, Coconut Cream, Banana Cream, Peanut Butter Silk, French Silk, Apple, Caramel Apple, Cherry, and no sugar added Wildberry.
Perkins has a new Pie Monday promotion too; every Monday you can enjoy a free slice of pie with any entrée purchase (including the senior menu). They also have half price pie from 9pm-close every day, and a Pie & Beverage special everyday for $3.99.
Perkins also offers a handy ordering service, which is popular during their busy pie-season (Christmas & Thanksgiving), when pumpkin & pecan are added to the menu.

Patsy couldn’t wait for the photo to be taken before digging in to the Strawberry Rhubarb pie from Seven Stars Family Restaurant.
We stopped at the cozy café in the late afternoon to talk (and eat) pie. Our server told us that Strawberry Rhubarb & Apple are their top sellers, but Coconut Cream is a local favorite too. Seven Stars Family Restaurant is a great place to go for a revolving daily selection of pies, all listed on the wall next to their specials. When we visited, they had Pecan, Coconut Meringue, Cherry, Pumpkin, Apple, and Strawberry Rhubarb. They also have peach once in a while, and a delicious Chocolate Mint Cream. We chose Strawberry Rhubarb and Cherry, and both were delivered warm and gooey. The tartness of the cherry and rhubarb was the perfect complement to the sweet filling, and the crust was expertly baked.
