There are many different perspectives when it comes to Spring Break. There’s the “go all out” kind of people that book the weeklong family trip to somewhere tropical. There’s the “road-trippers” who hop in their vehicle and head out. Yes, they might have a general destination in mind… but mostly, they’re plan is to drive and see where the road takes them.
And then there’s the “stay-cationers.” They have the week off work to spend with their kiddos but have no plans to travel. About right now, these people are starting to freak out over a week of no plans and the daunting task of occupying kids. It would be easier if the weather was 65 degrees and playing outside was an option.
Mother Nature better hope we never meet in a dark alley...
Alas, after the recent dumping of snow we received, it appears we’ll be having a “White Spring Break” in Clear Lake.
So what is there to do?
Our fabulous friends over at the Clear Lake Arts Center always have something up their sleeve. Something to engage kids’ bright minds and pull out the creativity that lingers just beneath the useless knowledge of how to play Minecraft. Starting Monday, March 12th is a fun-filled four days of exploring string art, print-making design, wasabi tape art, and play-doh/clay creations! The fun takes places from 10:30 – Noon and the cost is $10/student or a punch on your punch card. Give them a call at 641-357-1998 to get registered!!
The crew at Lake Theater will be showing some amazing kid-friendly features next week as well. Back by popular demand, Jumanji will be returning on Friday, March 9th. You guys… this movie is HILARIOUS!! On Tuesday the 13th, Peter Rabbit will hit the big screen until the 16th with special 1pm matinee showings. It’s the perfect way to spend an afternoon during Spring Break!
As always, the Clear Lake Library will be open during their regular hours all week. I truly believe we have one of the best libraries in the area. Be sure to stop in and load up on books, movies, or puppets. There are so many options to keep kiddos busy and active next week.
For those of you who have kids a little older, if they can hold out until the later part of the week, I suggest they burn off a little energy running through the laser tag courses at Battlefield Midwest. They’re open Thursday from 6-10pm, Friday from 6pm – midnight, Saturday from 5pm – midnight, and Sunday from 1-6pm.
Hopefully one of these ideas is a fit for you. I haven’t even looked to see what the weather is supposed to be like next week, but maybe Mother Nature will be feeling generous and give us a few nice days. I think a little fresh air and sunshine would make the week just that much more enjoyable!
And for those of you who make it through next week… keep your eyes peeled for a fun St. Patty’s Day guide. After running around doing activities with your kids all week, you just might need a night out on the town!
